Jennifer Lawrence used her social media presence to urge fans to participate in the 2026 midterm elections on Tuesday.
The Oscar winner posted a photo to her Instagram Story showing herself performing the three-finger salute associated with the Hunger Games movies. She paired the image with the caption, “Midterms bb. Don’t forget who burns with us.” The post included a direct link to Vote.org to facilitate registration and voting. Lawrence was photographed in New York City on election day wearing a braid that mirrored her former character, Katniss Everdeen.
The line referenced in her post originates from the 2014 film Mockingjay, Part 1. In that movie, Lawrence’s character delivers a promotional video for the rebellion, stating, “You can torture us and bomb us and burn our districts to the ground. But do you see that? Fire is catching, and if we burn, you burn with us!”
Lawrence’s political messaging follows a period of reflection on celebrity influence. In an interview with The New York Times’s The Interview podcast last November, she questioned the impact of public figures on voter behavior. “I don’t really know if I should,” she said regarding speaking out against President Trump. She noted that during his first term, she felt like “a chicken with my head cut off.” She added that election after election, celebrities do not make a difference on who people vote for, and that sharing opinions could add fuel to a fire in a divided country.
The voting appeal coincides with Lawrence’s return to the franchise. Last Wednesday, she appeared on the Call Her Daddy podcast to confirm her role in the upcoming prequel, Sunrise on the Reaping. The film will feature original stars Josh Hutcherson and Woody Harrelson. Lawrence described the experience of reuniting with the original crew as “unbelievable” and “emotional.” She said she and Hutcherson often walked to the bathroom with their arms around each other during production.
Sunrise on the Reaping is scheduled to open in theaters on November 25. The film will chronicle the history of Haymitch Abernathy’s time in the Hunger Games.
