Lewis Uvwo, the No. 7 overall player in the 2027 recruiting class, committed to Providence on Wednesday. The five-star center chose the Friars over offers from Kentucky, Baylor, and Cal. This decision provides an immediate boost for Bryan Hodgson, who begins his first season as head coach of the Providence basketball program.

Uvwo is currently ranked as the highest-rated center and the most talented big man in his recruiting class. He attends Prolific Prep in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. This commitment places him in the company of Ricky Ledo and Kris Dunn, who both signed with Providence in 2012. Uvwo is only the third five-star recruit to join the Friars in the history of the 247Sports ranking system.

The prospect cited the program’s culture as the primary factor in his decision. "What stood out to me about Providence were the people, the culture, and the way they made me feel throughout the whole process," Uvwo told 247Sports. He noted that the staff supported him as an individual, not just as an athlete. "I wanted to be somewhere I could grow, be challenged, and help build something special," he added.

Uvwo also praised Hodgson’s coaching style. He described the coach as a winner with a clear vision for the team. "You can tell he knows the game, understands what it takes to build a successful program," Uvwo stated. He expressed confidence in the role Hodgson envisions for him within the program.

247Sports Director of Scouting Adam Finklestein describes Uvwo as an elite defensive prospect. The report highlights his physical dimensions, noting a height of 6 feet 10 inches and a wingspan of nearly 7 feet 6 inches. Finklestein points to Uvwo's athleticism, including his ability to change direction quickly and perform secondary jumps. He currently weighs 225 pounds and is expected to add muscle while maintaining his explosiveness.

Uvwo took an official visit to Providence last month. He had previously visited Kentucky, Cal, and Baylor. His commitment positions the Friars as a competitive force in the Big East and on the national stage. The program operates within a Tier 4 budget range of $12.1 million to $15 million. This places Providence alongside other major conference teams such as Georgetown, Villanova, and UCLA.
