BYD’s luxury division Yangwang is preparing to unveil its most ambitious vehicle to date in the United Arab Emirates. Hu Xiaoqing, general manager of the sub-brand, confirmed this week that the global launch will occur in the Gulf state rather than in the company's home market. While a specific calendar date has not been announced, the executive sedan is expected to debut within the current month.
The new model is designed to compete directly with established ultra-luxury manufacturers such as Rolls-Royce, Bentley, and Mercedes-Maybach. Test images released last month show a prototype with rear-hinged coach doors, a configuration previously unseen on a BYD vehicle. Local reports indicate the car measures approximately 5,500 mm in length, a dimension comparable to the Rolls-Royce Phantom.
Technical specifications point to the car serving as a platform for BYD's newest engineering advances. The prototype was photographed at a BYD Flash Charging station, suggesting it supports megawatt-level charging. Furthermore, the sedan is reportedly the first model to utilize the company's solid-state battery technology. Stella Li, an executive vice president, previously stated that BYD's initial solid-state battery vehicle would arrive in 2027.
This launch marks a distinct shift in strategy for a company historically known for affordable transportation. The BYD Seagull, a small hatchback, sells for under $10,000 in China. In contrast, the new Yangwang sedan is rumored to start at 2 million yuan, or roughly $300,000. This price point places the vehicle well above the brand's current top-tier offering, the U8L plug-in hybrid SUV, which starts at 1.45 million yuan ($217,000).
Yangwang currently operates as the top tier of BYD's hierarchy, sitting above the Denza and FangChengBao sub-brands. The brand has previously showcased high-performance features such as the quad-motor e4 platform with 1,300 horsepower and the DiSus-X body control system. Zheng Yu, Yangwang's executive general manager, described the new sedan as featuring disruptive technology but did not provide specific technical details during the recent announcements.
