Apple Music error page now plays 2001 iPod songs
A hidden web feature lets visitors scroll and click a virtual replica of the original music player to hear 90-second previews.

Apple launched the original iPod on October 23, 2001. Twenty-five years later, the company added a hidden feature to its website that replicates the device.
The tribute appears on the error page for missing content at music.apple.com. A user named Kian found the feature on X. Visitors can access it by typing music.apple.com/ipod or any non-existent path into their browser address bar.
Instead of a standard not-found message, the browser displays a working replica of the 2001 player. Users can click the buttons to move through pre-installed tracks. The scroll wheel is also interactive. Clicking and dragging on the wheel allows users to scroll through the list, mimicking the physical hardware.
The digital player includes songs from artists who were popular when the product launched in 2001. Selecting a track plays a 90-second preview directly in the web interface. Users do not need a separate application to hear the music.
Apple discontinued the physical iPod several years ago. This web feature is a lighthearted nod to the device rather than a product announcement. The company has not indicated plans for anything beyond this tribute for the 25th anniversary.
9to5Mac asked its readers if Apple should manufacture a dedicated music player again. For those who prefer streaming services, Apple Music costs $11.99 per month. It is also available in the Apple One bundle.
