New Hampshire Republican Governor Kelly Ayotte retained her seat after a late-night projection confirmed her narrow victory over Democrat Cinde Warmington. The race remained too close to call until well after midnight, with NBC News calling the result in the early hours of Wednesday.

Ayotte, who has served in office for two years, defeated Warmington, a former member of the state Executive Council. The governor had campaigned on a platform focused on accelerating housing construction, reducing electric bill costs, and reforming the state's bail system.

Before the official projection, Ayotte addressed her supporters on Tuesday night. She described her tenure as a privilege and an honor, promising that her team would wait for every single vote to be counted. She took the stage again early Wednesday morning to deliver her victory speech.

Warmington issued a statement Wednesday morning acknowledging the result. She characterized the campaign as a fight to prioritize the needs of working families and to champion public education, housing, and health care. Warmington stated that she was proud of the race she ran for Granite Staters who have felt left behind.

In her statement, Warmington noted that she called Ayotte to congratulate her on the win. She expressed hope that the governor would work collaboratively with the newly elected Democratic majorities in the state House and Senate. Warmington also mentioned her frustration with what she described as corruption and self-dealing moving from Washington to Concord.

The gubernatorial result arrived alongside other key victories in the state. Democrat Chris Pappas won the open U.S. Senate seat, defeating former Republican Sen. John Sununu. That seat was previously held by Democratic Sen. Jeanne Shaheen. In the congressional race to fill Pappas's vacant district, Democrat Stefany Shaheen emerged as the winner. Maggie Goodlander also won reelection to her own House seat.

These outcomes shifted the balance of power in the state legislature to the Democratic party. The Senate race was one of several contests that helped determine the overall control of the U.S. Senate this year.
