Five items now form the visible limit for recent chats in the Gemini app on Android. This cap is the most visible change in a redesign that Google is pushing out via a server-side update. The rollout does not require users to download a new version of the app.

The update arrives following a recent shift from the Spark feature to a Task structure. The side panel navigation has been restructured to reduce crowding. The search function has moved to the top-right corner. New chat remains the first entry in the list. Library now sits directly beneath New chat, replacing its previous position near the bottom of the drawer.

To manage the length of the navigation drawer, Gemini displays only the five most recent conversations initially. Tapping a 'More' option expands the rest of the list. For AI Ultra subscribers, the full list includes New chat, Library, Images, Scheduled, Daily brief, Customize, Students, Videos, and Gems.

Google has also consolidated the settings interface. Preferences were previously divided between the account menu and a separate 'Gemini Settings' area. The new layout brings all options together on one page. The account menu now serves a narrower role, limited to switching accounts, leaving feedback, or getting help.

The new Settings page opens with Manage account and Usage limits. A Preferences section follows, containing Notifications, Personal Intelligence, Avatar, Task settings, Theme, Skills, Voice, Media, Device controls, Cart and orders, and Gemini Notebook. Theme is the only entry marked as new in this section. Two further sections complete the page: Data & privacy and Get support.

The Data & privacy section includes Import memory, Contact info from your devices, Gemini Apps Activity, Your public links, and the Privacy Help Hub. The Get support section lists Help, Report a problem, About, and Updates.

The same side panel and settings changes reached iOS, macOS, and the web app last week alongside the launch of Gemini 4 Argon. Android users are now seeing the update arrive more broadly. Other recent developments include Gemini Notebook becoming available as a Connected App, free users moving to 'Auto' models, and a new 'Map' tool replacing the '/' shortcut with '@'.
