Metallica performed "Of Wolf and Man" at the Las Vegas Sphere on October 31, marking the song's debut in the band's ongoing residency.
The track appeared roughly halfway through the set, following "72 Seasons." This was the first time the group had played the song since a show at London Stadium in July.
Frontman James Hetfield introduced the number with the line, "Seek the wolf in thyself." Audience footage shared on YouTube shows the Sphere screen displaying a red, apocalyptic sky and a large door decorated with bronze figures of the four band members.
The performance continued with a custom instrumental segment titled "Kirk and Rob Doodle." Lead guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Rob Trujillo combined the "I Disappear" theme from the "Mission: Impossible 2" soundtrack with the "Addams Family" theme.
Trujillo wore a bright red wig during the segment. He addressed the crowd, referring to Hammett as "Kirk von Hammett" and "Kirkular." He explained that the duo had been working on the jam for some time as a tribute to the holiday.
Hammett joked in response, saying, "Guess what my Halloween costume is right now. I'm a CIA scion. Ha!" The duo then launched into the improvised mix.
The show began with standard setlist fare, including "Blackened," "Fuel," "Leper Messiah," and "Devil's Dance." The band closed with fan favorites such as "For Whom the Bell Tolls," "One," and "Enter Sandman."
During the set, the band dedicated "The Call of Ktulu" to late member Cliff Burton. They also performed a traditional cover of "Whiskey in a Jar" and "The Unforgiven."
The full setlist for the October 31 performance is as follows: "Blackened," "Fuel," "Leper Messiah," "Devil's Dance," "72 Seasons," "Of Wolf and Man," "The Day That Never Comes," "The Outlaw Torn," "Kirk and Rob Doodle," "The Unforgiven," "The Call of Ktulu," "Hardwired," "Whiskey in a Jar," "For Whom the Bell Tolls," "One," and "Enter Sandman."
The band recently uploaded professional video recordings of other residency performances to their official YouTube channel. These include "The Call of Ktulu" from October 1 and "Devil's Dance" from October 3.
Metallica will leave the Las Vegas venue to tour the United States and Canada starting January 28. The run will continue through June 19, with Limp Bizkit and Avatar as supporting acts.
