San Antonio held Utah under 100 points for the first time this season on Monday night, securing a 119-97 victory that extended their winning streak to five games.
The Spurs shot 60 percent from the field while outscoring the Jazz 35-20 in the third quarter. Seven San Antonio players scored in double figures, with Dylan Harper leading the team with 17 points. Victor Wembanyama contributed 12 points, 11 rebounds, and three blocks. Stephon Castle added 16 points, Keldon Johnson had 15, and De'Aaron Fox finished with 12.
Utah lost its fifth consecutive game, with Lauri Markkanen providing 22 points and eight rebounds. Darryn Peterson finished with 14 points. The Jazz managed only 16 points in the opening quarter, a season-low for Utah and a season-best defensive performance for San Antonio in the first period.
San Antonio never trailed after allowing a 15-foot jumper to Markkanen in the game's opening minute. The Spurs then went on an 18-2 run following a Flagrant Foul 1 call on Peterson's closeout of a Vassell three-point attempt. Utah cut the lead to one point in the second quarter by making five of 11 three-pointers, but could not take the lead.
The Spurs outscored the Jazz 26-9 on fastbreak points and 52-36 in the paint. San Antonio won the first two games of a three-game homestand and will host Dallas on Wednesday night. Utah travels to New Orleans for its next contest.
