Todd Minardi, the police chief for Westboro, was found asleep in his vehicle in the parking lot of Star Liquor on Route 9 on Friday. He is currently on administrative leave.
Shrewsbury Police records indicate that officers responded to the location just after noon. The dispatch note described a man who had been sleeping in his motor vehicle since the previous day.
A UMass EMS worker and four Shrewsbury officers, including a lieutenant, arrived at 12:25 p.m. They transported Minardi to UMass Medical. The police report identifies his name but redacts other details. The make and model of his car are not listed.
The town of Westboro stated it is reviewing the matter with an outside investigator. Deputy Police Chief Steve Tompkins has taken command of the department.
Star Liquor shares a plaza with a Scrub-a-Dub car wash. A Shrewsbury booking log for that day shows no arrests were made. The incident report lists the action taken as simply “Report Taken.” Officials have not yet announced whether any charges will be filed.
