No. 20 Alabama defeated Arkansas State 101-86 on Friday night in Tuscaloosa, securing its second win of the season. The Crimson Tide built a decisive advantage through late-game execution after a slow start in the first half.
Amari Allen led the offense with 16 points, 13 rebounds, and 11 assists. This performance marked the fifth triple-double in program history, placing him in the same statistical tier as Aaron Estrada, Kira Lewis Jr., and Roy Rodgers. Qayden Samuels contributed the team's highest scoring total with 17 points, while Drew Fielder added 16.
Arkansas State opened the contest with a 19-11 lead, powered by Layne Taylor who finished with 20 points and six assists. Chaz Watson provided 15 points, and Amadou Doumbia recorded 11 points and 10 rebounds. The Red Wolves remained competitive into the third quarter, but the game remained out of reach for the visitors.
Alabama missed 16 of its first 19 shot attempts before halftime. The team recovered by generating 24 second-chance points. Allen hit consecutive three-pointers, including one from near the logo, and Fielder added a three-pointer with three seconds remaining in the first half to complete a 21-2 run. This sequence established a 51-34 lead for the home team.
Jordan Pyke scored seven points during an 11-0 run that narrowed the gap to 67-55. Tarris Bouie responded with a three-pointer on Alabama's next possession. Allen secured his 10th assist on a layup by Brandon Garrison with more than six minutes remaining.
Both Allen and Arkansas State's Amadou Doumbia suffered ankle issues during the final minutes. Allen landed awkwardly and required assistance off the floor before returning to the bench. Aden Holloway played his final game of a five-game suspension stemming from a March arrest. Jaxon Richardson sat out due to an upper-body injury.
