Bangor sees surge in home sales
Average prices hit nearly half a million dollars, far above the city's typical median.

For buyers in the Bangor housing market, the week of Sept. 27 brought a sudden shift in both volume and cost. Fourteen residential properties changed hands, double the seven sales recorded the previous week. This spike in activity coincided with a sharp rise in the typical price paid.
The average sale price for those fourteen homes reached nearly $500,000. That figure stands roughly $200,000 above the median sale price for a Bangor home, which Redfin calculated at approximately $295,000 for September. The disparity suggests that a small number of high-value transactions pulled the weekly average upward.
The most expensive property on the list is 232 Mount Hope Ave. It sold on Oct. 1 for $2.2 million. Only one other home in that week’s batch exceeded the one million dollar mark: 13 Yale St., which closed on Oct. 1 for $1.1 million. At the lower end of the spectrum, 130 Fruit St. sold on Sept. 30 for $90,000.
State transfer tax documents provided the data for this report. The records show individual closing dates and prices for every residential sale in the city during the period from Sept. 27 to Oct. 3. The data reveals a wide spread in what buyers were willing to pay within the same short timeframe.
Other notable sales include 43 Skyline Road, which sold on Sept. 29 for $700,000, and 21 Whisper Drive, which closed on Sept. 28 for $345,000. Several homes in the mid-range sold for prices between $325,000 and $400,000, including properties on Parkview Ave, Steamside Lane, and Royal Road.
