Rebecca Lynn of Vinyl Nights is organizing a free public event at Xanadu Roller Arts in Bushwick to coincide with the midterm elections. The gathering, titled Rolling for Democracy, will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 3, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the venue located at 262 Starr St.
The event is open to adults 18 and older. Admission is free for attendees who present an "I Voted" sticker upon entry. Participants can choose to skate on the rink, purchase drinks at the bar, or gather in common areas to watch the election results.
Lynn stated that the event aims to pair the political significance of the night with a social opportunity for neighbors. She described the evening as a way for residents to connect while following the returns. "Election Day is serious, but celebrating our voices can be joyful too," Lynn said. "Rolling for Democracy is where we vote, skate, laugh with friends and remind each other that being part of New York means showing up."
The program features a lineup of four DJs to provide music throughout the four-hour event. The performers are Misbehaviour, Varunisme, Silent H, and Serrian. Television screens tuned to various networks will display live election coverage for the crowd.
Lynn encouraged guests to cast their ballots before arriving at the rink. She positioned the night as an alternative to traditional viewing parties, emphasizing community participation. "We’ll celebrate the power of showing up, because voting matters, our voices matter, and there’s no better way to come together than to vote, roll and dance!" she said.
The venue is a roller rink in the Bushwick neighborhood. The event is part of a series of local gatherings scheduled for Election Day. Information regarding the event is available on the Rolling for Democracy ticket page.
Lynn noted that the event seeks to make the voting process feel less isolated. By combining physical activity with social interaction, the organizers hope to create a welcoming environment for voters. The free admission policy removes a financial barrier for participants who plan to attend.
