The Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys face off Monday night in Philadelphia, with both teams sitting at 2-4 and fighting for a chance to re-enter the NFC East race. The outcome determines whether either franchise can close the gap on the New York Giants, who currently lead the division with a 3-2-1 record. A win for either side would provide a rare victory in a division that has struggled to find a winner recently.
The division is experiencing a historic drought. Over the last two weeks, every team in the NFC East played twice and failed to win a single game. This marks the first time since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger that a division has gone winless for six consecutive weeks. The lack of wins has left the race tight, with the top two spots separated by only a few games.
Philadelphia enters Monday on a four-game losing streak, its first of that length since 2020. The offense has been particularly quiet, scoring just 58 points across those four losses. Quarterback Jalen Hurts is on injured reserve and expected to miss the remainder of the season due to blood clots. This forces Tanner McKee to start, marking the first meaningful start of his career after previously serving as a backup.
McKee had only two days of first-team practice before his previous start against Carolina. This week, he has more than a full week to prepare with first-year offensive coordinator Sean Mannion. McKee stated he feels he has a good preparation process and plans to meet with the coaching staff more frequently rather than preparing alone. The Eagles also face injury issues at running back, with Saquon Barkley missing time with a hamstring injury and his backups also dealing with injuries.
The Cowboys bring their own struggles to the matchup. Their defense ranks 30th in the league under first-year coordinator Christian Parker. Offensively, the team scored only 29 points in its last two losses, including a 23-13 defeat to Green Bay. They have scored fewer than 20 points in consecutive starts by Dak Prescott for the first time since 2019. Owner Jerry Jones said at the NFL's annual fall meeting on Wednesday that he does not expect more coaching changes this season.
Several individual milestones are at stake in Monday's game. Javonte Williams is the second Cowboys player with seven rushing touchdowns through the first six games, behind Emmitt Smith's totals from 1994 and 1995. CeeDee Lamb has 48 receptions, the most in franchise history through six games, and is closing in on 8,000 career receiving yards. Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert needs one catch to move into third place on the franchise's career receptions list.
Dallas is favored by 4 points in the matchup. The Cowboys are 3-3 against the spread this season, while the Eagles are 1-5. The all-time series between the two teams stands at 72-58 in favor of Dallas, which won the last meeting 24-21 on Nov. 23, 2025. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. CST on ESPN.
After Monday's game, the Eagles travel to Washington on Nov. 1 before hosting the Giants. That final divisional game will determine whether the Eagles' season can still be salvaged as the division's winless streak continues to test both franchises.
