The Dallas Stars returned to American Airlines Center on Thursday night with a depleted defensive rotation and left with two points. Miro Heiskanen did not score, but his pass decided the game.
Jason Robertson blocked a Winnipeg scoring chance in overtime, and Heiskanen quickly sent Roope Hintz in alone on the ensuing possession. Hintz finished the breakaway at 3:47 of the extra period to give Dallas a 3-2 win. Heika reported that a Robertson turnover had created the Winnipeg chance before his block ended it.
Heiskanen logged 29:20 of ice time and Thomas Harley played 28:27 after Esa Lindell was scratched for the game. Lian Bichsel followed at 17:47, with Nils Lundkvist, Tyler Myers and Kyle Capobianco also rotating through the Dallas defense. Heiskanen finished with five shots, one block and the assist on the winning goal.
Winnipeg built a 2-1 lead in the second period after Johnstons opened the scoring. Gabriel Vilardi and Kyle Connor answered for the Jets before Hintz tied it with a six-on-five goal with two minutes left in regulation. Dallas outshot Winnipeg 38-19, but goaltender Skinner made 35 saves to keep the Jets within one.
The Stars did not establish a return date for Lindell or a revised defensive rotation after Thursday's game. Dallas next faces Winnipeg again in a later matchup scheduled this week.
The game marked the second meeting of the season between the two clubs.
