Jeremiah Fears orchestrated a dominant offensive display on Thursday night, recording 22 points, a career-best 13 assists, and eight rebounds to propel the New Orleans Pelicans past the Sacramento Kings. The victory marks the first win of the season for the Pelicans under new head coach Jamahl Mosley.
The Pelicans’ bench provided a decisive edge, outscoring Sacramento’s reserves 41-8. Zion Williamson shot 10 of 12 from the field, finishing with 22 points entirely from within the paint. Trey Murphy III contributed 18 points to support the frontcourt effort.
Sacramento struggled with ball security, committing 25 turnovers. Darius Acuff Jr. posted a career-high 34 points and 12 assists for the Kings. Domantas Sabonis grabbed 15 rebounds and dished out seven assists, though he also turned the ball over seven times.
New Orleans navigated the absence of Jordan Poole, who sat out with an ankle injury, and Dejounte Murray, who was resting following the birth of his child. The Pelicans took a narrow 63-61 lead at halftime after trailing for the first 48 minutes of the game.
The game swung decisively during the third quarter when New Orleans outscored Sacramento 16-2. Williamson and Murphy led that run with six and five points, respectively. The Kings dropped to 0-5 and will play at Memphis on Saturday, while the Pelicans host Atlanta on the same night.
