Northeastern University women’s hockey players erased the Boston University Terriers from the board over a two-day stretch this past weekend. The Huskies won the first rivalry series of the season, defeating BU 8-1 on Friday and 4-2 on Saturday at the Matthews Arena.

The first game defined the disparity in possession. Northeastern outshot BU 40-10. Grace Sadura, a graduate student forward, opened the scoring in the first period with a shot from the lower circle. She added a fourth goal in the second period after catching a rebound and lobbing the puck to the top of the net. Associate head coach Nick Carpenito noted the team must maintain intensity despite the lopsided result. “Gotta keep our foot on the gas,” Carpenito said.

BU scored only once in the first game, a power play goal by Tessa Demain. The Terriers failed to capitalize on penalty opportunities created by Northeastern defenders. Senior goaltender Mari Pietersen faced 40 shots, a heavy burden for the visiting team. Northeastern’s dominance extended into the third period, where Emy McDermid and Stryker Zablocki both scored. The final tally stood at 8-1.

The second game began with a physical tone. Freshman Kylie Hollingsworth collided with Sadura, resulting in a major penalty after a video review. Lilly McInerney capitalized on the ensuing power play. BU tied the game at 2-2 in the first period when Quinn Taylor and Hollingsworth scored in quick succession. However, Northeastern regained the lead late in the frame with a goal by Morgan Jackson, assisted by Allie Lalonde.

Neither team scored in the second period. The Huskies maintained pressure with 28 shots on goal against BU’s 13. The decisive moment arrived late in the third period. A shot by Éloïse Caron initially appeared to hit the post. After a penalty on BU, officials reviewed the play and awarded the goal to Northeastern, making the score 4-2. Carpenito praised Caron’s creativity, stating she finds a way to create something out of nothing.

BU ended the weekend with a 2-7-1 record. Northeastern improved to 7-1-1. The Huskies will travel to Burlington, Vermont, to face the University of Vermont Catamounts on November 6 and 7. The Catamounts currently hold a 3-4-0 record.

Swiss international players Ivana Wey and Alessia Baechler missed the series due to the Women’s Euro Hockey Tour. Their absence did not halt the Huskies’ offensive output. The team recorded 12 goals across the two games. The weekend marked a definitive statement in the Hockey East conference standings.
