United Airlines will add twenty round trips between Portland International Jetport and California cities beginning in the spring of 2027.
The carrier announced the expansion on Monday, adding to Saturday service it had already scheduled for the summer season.
New service to San Francisco starts on May 8, 2027. United will fly that route on Saturdays initially. On June 23, the airline will add Wednesday departures. This schedule will result in thirty-two total flights to San Francisco.
Service to Los Angeles begins on June 26, 2027. United will operate that route on Saturdays. During peak summer travel, the airline will add six Wednesday flights. This brings the total Los Angeles service to nineteen round trips.
Zach Sundquist, assistant director at the jetport, said the new flights simplify travel between the coasts. He noted that United hubs in San Francisco and Los Angeles provide one-stop connections to Pacific Rim destinations. Sundquist stated that Wednesday service makes these options more appealing for local businesses with ties to Asia.
Portland International Jetport is the busiest airport in Maine. It handled nearly 2.6 million passengers in 2025, surpassing the 2.4 million recorded in 2024. Through August of this year, the facility saw more than 1.7 million passengers.
