The Paris Opera House has temporarily moved to Beverly, Massachusetts. North Shore Music Theatre is staging a new production of Maury Yeston and Arthur Kopit’s musical “Phantom” through November 1, 2026. The run brings a revised interpretation of the Gaston Leroux story to the North Shore for local residents who may not travel to major metropolitan centers for theater.

The production centers on Erik, a musical genius living beneath the opera house. The character’s isolated existence shifts when he meets Christine, a young singer with considerable talent. The narrative explores the connection between the two figures, focusing on themes of love and jealousy within the context of the original literary work. The show features a score composed by Tony Award winner Yeston.

North Shore Music Theatre opened in 1955 and serves approximately 250,000 patrons annually. The venue has received multiple awards, including the Elliot Norton, IRNE, Rosetta Le Noire, and Moss Hart honors. Bill Hanney has owned the theater since 2010. The organization presented the world premiere of “Memphis” in 2003, a musical that went on to win a Tony Award.

The theater maintains a diverse programming schedule beyond its musical subscription series. Activities include celebrity concerts, children’s programming, and educational classes available to all ages. The annual production of “A Christmas Carol” remains a staple event for the community. The venue continues to operate as a cultural hub in the region.

Performances are scheduled for Tuesday through Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday evening shows begin at 8 p.m. Matinees are available on Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets can be purchased by calling (978) 232-7200 or visiting nsmt.org. The box office is located at 54 Dunham Rd. in Beverly.
