Jaguars vs. Ravens: Rookie QB Fagnano faces top defense
Baltimore's odds flipped from favorite to 10-point underdog after injuries forced undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano to start Thursday.

The Baltimore Ravens enter their Thursday night matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars as 10-point underdogs, a sharp reversal from their status as three-point favorites before quarterback injuries were confirmed. This shift in the betting market reflects the difficulty of starting undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano against a Jacksonville defense that allows only 15.9 points per game.
Fagnano steps in for Lamar Jackson, who is dealing with a thumb injury, and Tyler Huntley, who has a toe injury. Both veterans were ruled out ahead of the contest. Fagnano made his first appearance in relief against the Buffalo Bills last week, completing 10 of 21 passes for 91 yards while throwing one interception. His first start arrives on a short preparation week.
The Jaguars hold the top spot in the AFC South following a decisive win over the Indianapolis Colts. Their defensive unit ranks second in the league for fewest points allowed and generates pressure on 39% of dropbacks. For Baltimore, this creates a high-stakes environment where an early deficit could derail their offense.
Baltimore’s ground game, anchored by Derrick Henry, will face a Jacksonville unit that leads the league in run defense, allowing just 77.4 yards per game. However, the Jaguars will be without defensive tackle DaVon Hamilton. On the offensive side, Jacksonville running back Chris Rodriguez Jr. may see an expanded role if Bhayshul Tuten is sidelined with an ankle and foot injury.
Quarterback Trevor Lawrence threw three touchdowns on just 14 attempts last week, a performance that may continue if the Jaguars maintain a strong running game. Jacksonville averages only 59.1 plays per game, ranking 26th in the league, and runs the ball on 48.3% of snaps. This controlled pace could help keep the game total near the current over/under of 40.5 points.
The betting adjustment from a three-point Ravens favorite to a 10-point Jaguars favorite represents a 13-point swing. Bettors may find value in player props rather than the main game line given the volatility of the matchup. Lawrence averages a league-low 5.1 fourth-quarter dropbacks per game, suggesting his workload remains limited unless Baltimore falls behind.
Henry has rushed for 58, 45, and 53 yards in his last three games, but he faces a stout defensive front. Lawrence’s passing yards market sits at 235.5, a number he has gone under in four of his seven games this season. His rushing attempts over at 3.5 looks attractive, as he has recorded at least three attempts in four straight games and may be forced to move outside the pocket or use end-of-game kneel downs.
Zay Flowers is a candidate for the receiving yards over at 46.5, a line he has cleared in six of his seven games. Although he went without a catch on five targets against Buffalo, that performance came in a relief situation with limited preparation. With Fagnano now the confirmed starter, Flowers may see more targets, especially if the Ravens must pass against a strong run defense.
